March 2, 2011

NASHVILLE – The 13th-ranked Commodores lacrosse team plays host to Cincinnati today at 3 p.m. at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex on campus.

Vanderbilt is looking to rebound from a Sunday loss to second-ranked Northwestern and close out its four-game homestand with a victory.

The Commodores (2-2, 0-1 American Lacrosse Conference) are led in the scoring column by Emily Franke and Katherine Denkler. Both seniors have scored eight goals through the first four games.

In the junior class, Courtney Kirk is tied with Franke for the team lead in points with 13. All-American Ally Carey is pacing the squad in ground balls (9), draw controls (18) and causted turnovers (5).

Cincinnati (1-2) is coming off a 15-7 loss 10 days ago at High Point. The Bearcats were defeated despite a 17-save performance from UC goalkeeper Jen Walsh.

In 2008, Cincinnati’s first-ever varsity women’s lacrosse game was played at the VU Lacrosse Complex. The Commodores were 20-4 winners that day, and defeated the Bearcats in Cincinnati the following season.

After closing its four-game homestand, the Commodores will head out on the road this weekend. Vanderbilt plays at Jacksonville on Saturday, March 5, and at Duke on Wednesday, March 9. VU’s next home game is scheduled for Wednesday, March 16, when New Hampshire visits the Music City.
