Lacrosse hosts Northwestern Sunday

NASHVILLE – The Commodore lacrosse team plays host to American Lacrosse Conference rival Northwestern on Sunday, Feb. 27, at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex. The game is scheduled to begin at Noon CT.

The 11th-ranked Commodores (2-1) are playing the third game of a four-game homestand Sunday. Northwestern (2-0), ranked second in the nation, is Vanderbilt’s second top-five opponent in the past two weeks, after No. 3 North Carolina edged the Commodores despite a 38-23 VU edge in shots. The Wildcats needed overtime to defeat the Tar Heels, 8-6, on Friday night in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Vanderbilt and Northwestern were selected to finish second and first in the ALC, respectively.

Senior Katherine Denkler leads the Commodores in goals scored with eight in three games. Vanderbilt is averaging 16 goals per game, while allowing only 7.3 goals against.

Junior All-American Ally Carey is pacing the Commodores in ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers for the second straight year. Classmate Courtney Kirk is the team leader with 12 points and seven assists.

Following Sunday’s game, the Commodores will wrap up their four-game homestand by playing host to Cincinnati on Wednesday, March 2 at 3 p.m. CT.
