NASHVILLE – The 11th-ranked Commodore women’s lacrosse team continues its four-game homestand on Tuesday, Feb. 22, welcoming Canisius to the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex for a 2 p.m. CT game.
Vanderbilt (1-1) is looking to rebound from a 14-10 loss to No. 3 North Carolina in last week’s home opener. The Commodores opened the 2011 season on the road with a 22-3 victory over Presbyterian.
Through two games, senior Emily Franke and junior Hannah Clark are tied for the team lead in goals with four each. A total of 15 Commodores have scored for the squad.
Tuesday’s game marks the season opener for Canisius, which finished second in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference last season. The Griffs return three of their top four scorers from 2010, including senior attacker Carly Quinn.
This will be the first meeting between Vanderbilt and Canisius. The Commodores will play all eight of their 2011 home games at the VU Lacrosse Complex, located behind the Currey Tennis Center off 25th Avenue. Parking is available in the 25th Avenue Garage.
Vanderbilt’s official web site, vucommodores.com, will offer a live webcast and Gametracker statistics of Tuesday’s game.
Following the Canisius game, the Commodores will remain home for two more games before heading back out on the road. This Sunday, Feb. 27, Vanderbilt plays host to American Lacrosse Conference rival Northwestern, the No. 2 ranked team in the nation. That game is scheduled to begin at Noon. Vanderbilt will then welcome Cincinnati to the Music City on Wednesday, March 2.
