Dores travel to Northwestern

Feb. 17, 2011

Coming off two wins over top-25 teams last weekend, the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team travels to the suburbs of Chicago this weekend to take on Northwestern Friday at 5 pm. The Commodores took down No. 23 Washington on Friday before defeating No. 22 Michigan on Saturday afternoon.

Northwestern holds a 5-2 record entering Friday’s match, with a recent win over William & Mary which snapped a two-match losing streak. The Wildcats, ranked 69th in the latest ITA poll, have dropped the doubles point just once this season, and the duo of Joshua Graves and Spencer Wolf are 6-1 at the No. 1 spot.

Vanderbilt jumped up in the latest rankings, moving from 44th to 28th. With a 5-2 record in dual matches this spring, Ryan Lipman is ranked 57th in the latest singles poll. Lipman and senior Adam Baker have combined for a 5-2 record at No. 1 doubles matches, which propelled them to a No. 33 ranking. Alex Zotov and Charlie Jones are ranked 35th in the nation and hold a perfect 6-0 record in No. 2 doubles matches.

Vanderbilt and Northwestern previously met in 2010 and 2008, with the Commodores earning 6-1 victories in each match. Last season, Lipman clinched the win for Vanderbilt with a 6-4, 6-4 victory in the No. 1 singles match.
