Head Coach Melanie Balcomb
On Stephanie Holzer…
“She had one foul tonight and she got a lot of minutes which makes a big difference with our team. I think that’s what she was really focused on tonight: making a change, playing smarter. She’s a very good face-up player. She has a lot of confidence in her face-up game as well as her low post game and I thought we did a really good job of being patient and getting her the basketball down the stretch.”
On only having three 3-point attempts…
“They chased our guards and we didn’t do a good job setting up our screens. But we also, against this team, wanted to go inside and try to get their two post players – who I think are very good – [LaSondra] Barrett and [Taylor] Turnbow in foul trouble and we got one of them in foul trouble early.”
On Jence Rhoads…
“I brought her here as a point guard that I knew was a lot more excited about making a pass than taking a shot. Winning comes first for her. The team comes first with her and right now, these last two seasons, I’ve forced her to shoot more than she ever wanted to. It’s my fault she hasn’t hit 500 a lot earlier. She would much rather pass the ball. I think she sees the floor extremely well, passes well with both hands, and is a great decision maker. And the best part of her game is she does not turn the ball over.”

On staying out of foul trouble…
“I have had trouble with fouling and I’ve been very conscious of it the past week. My team has been helping me out with it and the coaches. bBefore the game we all stood up and said what we were going to do for the team tonight and I said, ‘I’m going to play smart and solid defense and I’m not going to foul.’ I guess telling them that and making that promise, I wasn’t going to let them down.”
On her game…
“I was able to get open and my teammates were able to find me, and were able to connect. I think that they did a really good job of cutting inside the basketball and getting me open and it just worked out.”

On having 500 assists…
“That’s a great accomplishment to be one of the top assists makers here. My teammates were making shots for me, that’s the key right there.”
On being 12-0 in Memorial Gym…
“I think we’re comfortable here, playing in front of our fans and being in our own environment. We love playing in this gym. We practice in it every day so it’s a comfort thing for us and I hope to find that comfort on the road.”
