Jan. 14, 2011

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s track and field team opens up the 2011 indoor season this weekend at the Kentucky Invitational. The meet begins with select field events on Friday evening at the E.J. Nutter Field House. The meet resumes Saturday morning with the remaining field events followed by the running events.

“This is our first competition of the season and we’re really excited,” said track and field head coach D’Andre Hill-Montgomery. “The immediate goal right now is to get in and get out with everyone healthy. We want to set a quality standard to jump start the season and we can move forward from there.”

The Commodores will be facing competition from two other SEC teams, Tennessee and Alabama, as well as 11 other teams including host Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Michigan State and Western Kentucky.

“Everyone had a great fall,” said Hill-Montgomery. “We’re really anxious to see what Anna [Carr] is going to do this year. I think she is really ready to break out and have a great junior year. I’m also really exited to see how the freshman react in their first collegiate track meet.”
