Quick Slant is an array of brief insights and occasionally opinionated overviews of collegiate athletics in general and the Vanderbilt Commodores in particular.
- As of this posting, four contributors to our Suggestion Box have accepted invitations to attend a late January retreat to discuss ideas and solutions to a better football experience. We will have about 25 attendees at this discussion, most of whom being fans. Suggestions continue to come and several more contributors will be invited to this retreat. We’ve had around 150 suggestions so far.
- The audience composition for our Feb. 13 women’s basketball game with Tennessee is shaping up to be special. We have been working closely with Vanderbilt’s Employee Celebration office and are excited that thousands of university staff and their families will be attending that game as a benefit of their employment here, much the same as Employee Celebration has sponsored a very popular football game experience every fall.
- We are now accepting nominations for the 2011 Athletic Hall of Fame class. On-line readers can find the form on our web page and paper forms are available at the McGugin box office, the National Commodore Club offices and at Memorial Gymnasium.
- Last week Quick Slant mentioned Tom Henderson and Bob Dudley Smith are being inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame next month. We have learned that pitching great David Price will be honored as the professional Co-Athlete of the Year.
- It might not feel like it but baseball season is just around the corner. If you haven’t gotten your season tickets renewed, here’s your reminder.
