Vanderbilt Head Coach Melanie Balcomb
On the game…
“I was glad to be winning again. We’d lost two in a row so I’m glad we put two halves together. We won both halves. We did a lot of work since that last game and all I could focus on was trying to keep them focused on what their task was and their job and not focused on what happened the last two games, and not to go backwards.”

On Stephanie Holzer
“Steph is feeling a lot better and practicing more and you could see her confidence carry into the game. She had a really good week practicing. It’s a process. She missed a lot of time and now she’s starting to get back in it and play strong in practice. I knew she was going to do well. I went with her quickly for that reason.”

On Jence Rhoads
“She’s extremely unselfish. At the start of the second half she makes the first bucket and that’s because I told her she had to shoot the ball to score. After four years you have to tell her, but she could care less because she just wants a win and sometimes she forgets that she has to score for us to do that because she’s distributed the ball for four years and hasn’t really had to score.”

On rebounding…
“We focused on offensive rebounds. We had 19 offensive rebounds. We had 12 at the half. We really focused on getting second shots. We’ve never been a great offensive rebounding team because we’ve been a pretty good offensive shooting team. We focused on really attacking the rim and getting second and third shots, and it’s okay if we don’t execute perfectly or if they take us out of things.”

Vanderbilt Freshman Center Stephanie Holzer
On the game…
“You can always work harder. It was good to get back on the right track and stop what was going to start with the losing streak. We can build on this and keep going where we were.”

On her back injury…
“It’s getting there. It is something I always have to work with and stretch a lot but nothing that’s going to stop me from playing.”

On the positives of the game…
“I think we did a really good job of getting up and that’s the positive to focus on. We were there and able to get up on those teams. Whether it was fear or getting too comfortable, we were getting into bad habits and not playing like us. The positive was that we could fix that.”
