Women’s tennis to play in Furman Fall Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team travels to Greenville, S.C., this weekend to play in the 24th annual Furman Fall Classic. Eight teams will compete in the tournament, including Southeastern Conference opponents Tennessee and South Carolina.

Seven of the teams competing this weekend, including Vanderbilt, were ranked in the top 25 in the final ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings of 2010: North Carolina (3), Northwestern (7), Clemson (11), Tennessee (13), Florida State (14), South Carolina (19) and Vanderbilt (27).

Doubles play will begin on Friday at 9 a.m. followed by singles play at 1 p.m. The tournament will continue on Saturday and Sunday.

The Commodores were very successful in their first fall tournament of the season, tallying 16 wins at the SEC Fall Coaches Classic, and look to continue that momentum through the rest of the season.

Results from the tournament will be posted at the end of each day.
