NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team opens the fall season this weekend at the SEC Fall Coaches Classic at the Yarborough Tennis Center on the campus of Auburn University. The tournament begins at 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10 and continues through Sunday afternoon.
The tournament will feature several singles and doubles flights with eight players/pairs in each.
Freshmen Alex Leatu and Lauren Mira join six returning players from the 2009-10 team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. Jackie Wu closed out her sophomore campaign ranked No. 38 in the Campbell’s/ITA singles rankings, while Chelsea Preeg ended her sophomore season at No. 84. The duo of Wu and Preeg was ranked No. 42 at the end of the 2010 season and teammates Heather Steinbauer and Erica Robertson claimed the No. 51 ranking.
Seniors Keilly Ulery and Rachael Dillon look to cap off their Vanderbilt career with yet another trip to the NCAA tournament. The Commodores have made 17 consecutive tournament appearances, including a stretch of 11 straight sweet 16 births. Ulery posted a 22-19 overall record last year, including a 6-5 mark in conference matches. Dillon tallied 12 wins in dual matches, five coming against SEC opponents.
