Tennis players honored by ITA for academics

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Seven members of the Vanderbilt men’s and women’s tennis teams were honored by the ITA as Scholar-Athletes for the 2009-10 season. Charlie Jones, Scott Lieberman, Andrew Pulido and Bryant Salcedo were tabbed from the men’s squad while Hannah Blatt, Catherine Newman and Keilly Ulery were recognized from the women’s team.

In addition to the individual players, the Vanderbilt men’s team received the ITA All-Academic Team award for having a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above.

Individual players earned Scholar-Athlete status by having a GPA of at least 3.5 and being enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters. For the complete release from the ITA, click on the link at the top of the page.

The women’s tennis team opens up the fall season this weekend at the SEC Coaches Classic, hosted by Auburn University this year. The men begin their fall season Sept. 24 in Athens, Ga. at the Southern Collegiates.
