- Today’s Quick Quiz: Which SEC program has had the most players selected in Major League Baseball’s draft over the last eight years and which program has the most active Major League players? Easy answer below.
- The Southeastern Conference has a new bowl partner, the Gator Bowl. To make room on its dance card, the league is no longer connected with the Independence Bowl. Of the SEC’s eight affiliations, the Gator Bowl will select its league participant right before the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl.
- A recent column on ESPN.com selected the Top 20 collegiate super fans and our own Lance Smith, a.k.a. Vandy Lance, came in at No. 10. Half of the 20 fans are from SEC schools. Dick Coffee, one of four Alabama fans to be acknowledged, topped the rankings.
- Saturday night’s game with LSU will have many patriotic elements by falling on September 11. The Spirit of Gold’s pre-game will include area first responders, a Commodore player will carry our American flag onto the field before the game and the band’s halftime will also be a salute to the 911 heroes. Also on tap will be the halftime announcement of Vanderbilt’s 2009-10 Coach of the Year.
