NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt soccer team opened its 2010 preseason camp Wednesday with a pair of practices on campus.
After team pictures and meetings on Tuesday, the preseason began in earnest this morning with a 7 a.m. fitness test led by Strength & Conditioning Coach Tasha Weddle.
The team then took part in a 90-minute training session that started with technical drills and concluded with 7-on-7 work. The afternoon session concentrated more on 1-v-1 defending.
Vanderbilt has only 11 days before its only exhibition game of the year on Sunday, August 15, when Belmont visits the VU Soccer Complex for a 6 p.m. start. Admission to that game, which begins as Vanderbilt’s annual “Dore Jam” football fan day is winding down, is free.
The regular season begins on Friday, August 20, when the Commodores travel to UAB. Vanderbilt will play host to Minnesota the following week in its regular season home opener.
Head Coach Ronnie Woodard welcomed eight newcomers to this year’s squad, including six freshmen and a pair of transfers. The Commodores’ roster includes nine fourth- or fifth-year players, led by two-time All-Southeastern Conference selection Molly Kinsella.
