INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Vanderbilt All-American Brittni Hamilton was red hot Tuesday and shot into second place as a result at the 2010 Junior Gold Championship.
The Junior Team USA member from Webster, N.Y., a contender in this huge national field a year ago, totaled 1,331 pins over six more games and trails only Danielle McEwan of Stony Point, N.Y., who is averaging 219.67 after the 12 games. Hamilton had two games over 250 among her day’s work.
Vanderbilt rising sophomore Sarah O’Brien also liked Tuesday’s lanes and is in 17th position after a 1,288 effort. Jessica Earnest also improved over her opening score and sits in 40th position but poised to rally in the tightly bunched field of well over 300.
“Brittni, Jess and Sarah should all do very well tomorrow on the short pattern,” Vanderbilt Coach John Williamson noted. “And Kim Carper should make tomorrow’s cut so we are hopeful of having another big group moving into Thursday’s play.”
Carper and Lauren Rhein were still bowling as this report was compiled. Courtney Morgan, yet another Commodore, wasn’t able to find the magic and is not likely to make the cut to the top 78 bowlers plus ties after tomorrow’s six games are complete.
