Team Notes
* Florida State now leads the all-time series with Vanderbilt 3-1. The two teams met in a three-game series in 1972 with VU winning the first game and FSU rebounding to win the next two.
* Vanderbilt is now 19-17 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. VU is 16-11 in the NCAA Tourney under Tim Corbin. Prior to Corbin’s arrival in 2003, the Commodores were 3-6 in three previous appearances.
* Vanderbilt is playing in its second ever NCAA Super Regional. VU played in the Austin Super Regional against Texas in 2004, falling in both games.
* Vanderbilt is playing in its fifth straight NCAA Tourney. VU has made the NCAA tourney six times in eight seasons under Corbin.
* Vanderbilt hit a season-high four home runs on Friday. It marked the first four home run game for the Commodores since VU accomplished the feat against Mississippi State on April 26, 2009.
* The Commodores 16 hits on Friday was one shy of tying the school’s NCAA Tourney single game record (17 hits, last vs. Oklahoma, 6/1/2008)
Individual Notes
* Curt Casali’s fourth-inning home run was his eighth bomb if the season and 20th of his career. The home run for Casali was his first since homering against Mississippi State on May 14th.
* Joe Loftus’ sixth-inning lead-off home run was his eighth of the year and 12th of his career.
* Jason Esposito went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. The double for Esposito was his team leading 25th double of the season while the home run was his 11th of the year and 15th of his career. Esposito’s 25 doubles this season ranks third in the VU single season record book.
* Richie Goodenow allowed one run on three hits in 1.2 innings of relief. The earned run given up by Goodenow was his first run allowed since April 16th. Since April 16, Goodenow had thrown 21 scoreless innings.
* Mike Yastrzemski eighth-inning home run was his third homer of the year.
* Curt Casali went 4-for-5 with 2 RBI and run scored. Casali was a triple away from the cycle while tying a career high with four hits. In the last three games of the postseason Casali is hitting .615 (8-for-13) with 6 RBI and three runs scored.
