Individual Notes
* Brian Harris hit-by-pitch in the eighth inning was his 35th HBP of the year, tying Creighton’s Robbie Knight (’07) for the NCAA Division I record for most times hit in a season.
* Jason Esposito’s fourth-inning solo home run was his 10th home run of the season and 14th of his career. Esposito’s last home run before Saturday came on May 11th when he connected on a 17th-inning walk-off home run against Louisville.
* Sonny Gray struck out eight batters on Saturday, giving him 108 for the season. Gray’s 108 strikeouts ranks eighth on the all-time Vanderbilt single season list. Gray moved past Mike Byrd (101, ’99), Mike Minor (101, ’08) and Damon Yee (106, ’00). The Smryna, Tenn., native is one of place in school history.
* It marked the ninth time in Gray’s career that he has struck out at least 8 batters in a game.
* Senior catcher Andrew Giobbi threw out his 24th runner of the season on Saturday. Giobbi has thrown out 24 of 55 runners attempting to steal this year.
Team Notes
* Vanderbilt now leads the all-time series with Louisville 17-4. The Commodores captured an epic 11-10 decision in 17 innings the last time the teams met on May 11. VU has now won four of the last six meetings with Louisville.
* Vanderbilt is now 4-2 against the Cardinals under head coach Tim Corbin.
* Vanderbilt is playing in its ninth NCAA tournament appearance in school’s history.
* Vanderbilt is now 16-16 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
