Lipman loses in NCAA second round

ATHENS, Ga. – One day after earning his first career postseason win with a three-set victory over No. 25 Thibaut Charron of VCU, Vanderbilt freshman Ryan Lipman was eliminated from the NCAA Singles Championship on Thursday when he was defeated in the second round by Ohio State’s Chase Buchanan.

The 34th-ranked Nashville native dropped the opening set to Buchanan, 6-3, before taking the second set, 6-1, to even the match. Buchanan, who is seeded No. 7 in the tournament, would win the third set, 6-4, to clinch the match and advance to the third round.

The loss ended Lipman’s first season of college tennis. It was a season that included many top honors such as being named Ohio Valley Rookie of the Year, SEC Co-Freshman of the Year and First Team All-SEC. Lipman ended the season with a 23-14 record.
