NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt freshman Ryan Lipman has been selected to compete in the 2010 NCAA Singles Championships, as announced by the NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Subcommittee on Wednesday.
The singles championships take place May 26-31 at the Dan Magill Tennis Center in Athens, Ga., and follow the team championship (May 21-25).
Ranked No. 34 in the nation, Lipman earned his first trip to the championships be being one of 48 at-large selections that make up the field of 64. The Nashville native is the first Vanderbilt player to be selected to the NCAA Singles Championships since Ryan Preston was in 2008.
Lipman recently was named Co-SEC Freshman of the Year and earned first team All-SEC honors. He is the first Vanderbilt freshman to earn either award.
Lipman compiled a 22-13 overall record, including a 12-10 mark in dual play. Lipman played all of his dual matches in the No. 1 position and was the only SEC freshman to play in the top slot during league play, where he went 6-5.
Before the singles championships Lipman and the rest of the Commodores will compete in the NCAA Tournament, beginning May 15 at 1 p.m. (CT) against No. 23 Virginia Tech in Louisville, Ky.
