Lipman earns third SEC FOW honor

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Coming off the first week of his career in which he finished 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles in SEC play, Vanderbilt men’s tennis player Ryan Lipman was named SEC Freshman of the Week for the third time on Wednesday.

Lipman helped the Commodores earn a pair of 4-3 road wins at Arkansas and LSU by defeating two ranked opponents in the No. 1 singles slot and teaming with Bryant Salcedo to help the Commodores win the doubles point in both matches.

A Nashville native, Lipman opened last week by knocking off No. 60 Christopher Nott of Arkansas, 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 1 position. The 30th-ranked Lipman defeated his 10th ranked opponent of the season when he beat No. 34 Neal Skupski of LSU, 6-4, 6-4, on Sunday.

In doubles, Lipman teamed with Bryant Salcedo in the No. 2 position to defeat Arkansas’ duo of Matt Walters and Matthew Hogan, 8-4. The duo then moved to 7-3 in SEC play by defeating and LSU’s duo of Stefan Szacinski and Mark Bowtell, 8-4.

In singles, Lipman is 22-11 overall this season, 12-8 in the No. 1 dual slot and 6-4 in SEC play. Earlier this season, Lipman was named SEC Freshman of the Week on March 24 and Feb. 10.

The 31st-ranked Commodores will conclude their regular season on Saturday when they travel to No. 8 Kentucky.
