MADISON, Miss. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team closes out the 2010 regular season this week at the Bancorp South Intercollegiate at the Reunion Golf and Country Club.
The event is scheduled for 54 holes in two days, with 36 holes being played on Monday, April 5, followed by a final 18 holes on Tuesday, April 6. The Commodores are looking for another strong performance before postseason play begins in two weeks in Sea Island, Ga., with the 2010 Southeastern Conference Championships.
Head Coach Tom Shaw traveled to Mississippi with seniors Hudson Johnson and Chris Rockwell, junior Ryan Haselden, sophomore Trey DelGreco and freshman Will Snipes.
Johnson and Haselden have both competed in every tournament for the Commodores this year, scoring in 91 percent of their rounds. Johnson leads the team with seven Top 20 finishes in eight events.
This year’s field includes Central Florida, Florida, Jackson State, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Mississippi State, North Florida, host Ole Miss, Rice, Southern Mississippi, Santa Clara, South Alabama, Southeastern Louisiana, UAB and Vanderbilt.
Last year in Mississippi, Vanderbilt’s Adam Hofmann earned runner-up honors at the tournament. Hofmann is sitting out this season with a medical redshirt.
Round one begins Monday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT. The Commodores will begin on holes four through eight, playing with Rice and Southeastern Louisiana. The Reunion Golf and Country Club is setup at Par 72 over 7,305 yards this week.
