NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt baseball, winners of six straight, will host Wofford for a two-game midweek series starting on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Hawkins Field.
The teams will play again on Wednesday at 6 p.m., wrapping up the Commodores seven-game home stand.
VU is 21-4 overall and 4-2 in Southeastern Conference play after sweeping Kentucky last weekend at Hawkins Field.
Junior right-hander Chase Reid will take the mound on Tuesday for VU, while Wednesday’s starter is to be determined. Reid (4-1, 1.57) is tied for the team lead in wins, while also sporting the top ERA on the team and the second best mark in the SEC behind Ole Miss’ Drew Pomeranz (1.23).
The Terriers are 8-15 overall and 2-4 in Southern Conference play. Wofford was swept in four games at New Mexico State over the weekend in non-conference action.
Sophomore designated hitter Mac Doyle leads the team with a .433 batting average along with 11 homers, 11 doubles and 34 RBI in 22 starts. Sophomore outfielder James Foster is also hitting over .400 at .423 with eight doubles and seven stolen bases in 10 attempts. As a team WU has a .307 batting average with 26 homers and 187 runs scored (8.1 per game).
Sophomore left-hander Cash Collins (0-0, 4.40 ERA) will take the mound for Wofford on Tuesday, while Wednesday’s starter is to be determined as of Monday afternoon. WU’s pitching staff has a 7.50 team ERA with 170 strikeouts and 128 walks in 205.1 innings of work.
Tuesday’s game will be the first ever meeting between the two schools on the baseball diamond.
