BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second time this season, Vanderbilt freshman Ryan Lipman has been named Southeastern Conference Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.

Lipman received the most recent honor Wednesday when he was rewarded for his performance against No. 30 Alabama last weekend. Playing in the No. 1 singles position, the Nashville native knocked off his second consecutive ranked opponent when he defeated No. 47 Saketh Myneni to earn Vanderbilt’s fifth point in a 5-2 victory over Alabama.

Lipman dropped the first set to Myneni before winning the remaining two sets, 2-6, 6-4, 5-4, retired. Ranked No. 38 nationally, Lipman is now 9-6 in the No. 1 singles position, including 3-2 in the SEC.

In doubles play, Lipman teamed with Bryant Salcedo to defeat Alabama’s team of Doverspike and Thompson, 9-8 (4), in the No. 2 position. The win came after Lipman and Salcedo had earned their first national ranking earlier in the week (No. 74).

Vanderbilt will look for its second win in a row when the Commodores play at Auburn at 1 p.m. Sunday.
