The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has named Vanderbilt’s Kevin Stallings its District-21 Coach of the Year in a vote by his peers.
Stallings has led the Commodores to a 24-8 record so far this season, and its third NCAA Tournament appearance in the last four seasons. Vanderbilt also finished second in the SEC East and received a bye in the SEC Tournament for only the third time since divisional play began in the SEC in 1992.
Stallings becomes a candidate for NABC National Coach of the Year along with the other district winners and any coach who gets his team to the NCAA Sweet 16 this season.
Located in Kansas City, Miss, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game.
The NABC currently claims nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men’s basketball coaches. Here are all of the NABC 2010 award winners.
