#5 Vanderbilt vs. #4 LSU

TOURNAMENT NOTES

– The score was tied six times in tonight’s game, while there were ten lead changes.

– The two teams each scored 31 second-half points, the two point halftime margin was the difference.

VANDERBILT NOTES

– Vanderbilt is now 22-9 on the season, 42-24 all-time in the SEC Tournament , and will advance to play Tennessee in Game 9 Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

– Senior guard Merideth Marsh scored 17, her 25th double-figure game, and eighth in a row.

– Marsh played all 40 minutes of tonight’s game, and has now played in all 85 minutes (including OT vs. Arkansas) for VU in the tournament.

– Junior forward Hannah Tuomi also scored 17 points, the 17th double-figure game of her season.

– Vandy won the battle of points in the paint 24-22.

– Vanderbilt is now 6-0 all-time in games played at the Gwinnett Center Arena.

– A note to watch: In each of Vandy’s last three SEC Championship runs, 2004, 2007 and 2009, the Commodores have defeated LSU at some point during the tournament. VU is 7-3 against LSU in the tournament all-time, with all seven wins coming in the last eight meetings.

– Melanie Balcomb is now 8-6 against LSU.

– Vandy leads the series with the Tigers 21-16 and have won five out of the last seven.

LSU NOTES

– LSU is now 20-9 on the season, 28-29 all-time in the SEC Tournament

– The Tigers’ longest scoring run of the day happened early on. After Vanderbilt hit a three-pointer to open play, LSU went on a 12-0 run over the next 6:30 to go up 15-3 at the 12:39 mark of the first half.

– Senior guard Allison Hightower scored 24 points, the 14th consecutive game she has scored in double-figures. She has scored in double-figures in all but two games this season.

– Junior guard Katherine Graham was LSU’s leading rebounder with 10, the seventh time this season she has led the team on the boards.

– Graham also scored 10 points to join Hightower as the only Tigers in double-figures.

– The 10 points and 10 rebounds for Graham represented her fourth double-double of the season.

– Sophomore guard Destini Hughes played all 40 minutes for the Tigers.

– LSU won the points off turnovers battle, 21-6 after forcing 18 Vanderbilt turnovers.

– This marks the first time since 2001 that LSU has not advanced to the semifinals of the SEC Tournament.
