In an effort to stay in touch with our fans, we will be sending you updates from the road this spring. We’d like to give you an insider’s perspective of what it’s like to travel to college tournaments. In addition to talking about our results, we’ll share some of the things we do off the course.
After a long winter layoff we played our first tournament of the spring in Valdosta, Georgia at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club last weekend. Kinderlou Forest is about 45 minutes from Anna Leigh Keith’s hometown of Moultrie, Georgia, so we stopped at her house for dinner on Saturday night. It was definitely worth the trip. Anna Leigh’s mom fixed all of her favorites, ribs, pulled pork sandwiches, Brunswick stew, and sweet potato fritters. And for dessert, Dr. Keith made Coach Allen’s favorite, fudge brownies.
Kinderlou Forest is the host of the South Georgia Classic presented by First State Bank and Trust Company, an event on the Nationwide Tour. It is a long layout and a good test of golf. The team managed to knock of the winter rust and compete with some of the best teams in the country. We finished 5th ahead of Virginia, Ole Miss, Florida, LSU, Florida State, South Carolina, Kent State, Arkansas, North Carolina, Chattanooga, Kentucky, Kennesaw State, and Mississippi State.Marina Alex continued her All-American campaign, tying for second place individually, and Lauren Stratton finished 20th. We’re excited to get back on the road again this weekend. We will play a one-day match at Auburn on Sunday against Alabama, Auburn, Florida, and Georgia, four out of the top 15 teams in the country. All four of these teams will be top contenders for the SEC championship in April.
Next week is spring break, so we will go to New Orleans for LSU’s tournament. It’s going to be a busy spring, so stay tuned for more updates. Thanks for your support and Fight `Dores.
