NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Looking to pick up their first win of the 2010 season, the 13th-ranked Vanderbilt lacrosse team (0-2) will travel to Baltimore, Maryland, to take on the UMBC Retrievers (2-1) on Saturday at 12 pm CT.
The Retrievers are coming off their first loss of the season, a 7-4 loss to No. 11 Loyola at home on Tuesday. After three games, junior Amanda Pappas leads all UMBC scorers with 11 goals on the season.
In UMBC, the Commodores will be facing their first unranked team of the year, a week after squaring off against two Top Five teams in No. 4 North Carolina and No. 5 Duke. The `Dores hope to rebound from last week’s 12-6 loss at North Carolina
In last year’s game against UMBC, Head Coach Cathy Swezey’s squad dominated the Retrievers with a 15-6 victory at the VU Lacrosse Complex. Sarah Downing led the `Dores with five goals. The match also marked the first win for goalkeeper Natalie Wills, who currently leads the American Lacrosse Conference with 28 saves.
