Baseball hosts Austin Peay Tuesday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –Vanderbilt will close out a four-game season opening homestand on Tuesday as Austin Peay comes to town for a 4 p.m. tilt at Hawkins Field.

The Commodores are 3-0 overall after sweeping Niagara over the weekend by a combined score of 46-5.

Junior right-hander Chase Reid will make his first appearance of the season in the start against the Governors. Reid went 3-0 in 2009 with a 4.46 earned run average and had 38 strikeouts and just 10 walks in 34.1 innings.

The Governors are 2-1 on the year after splitting a pair of games against Illinois State and defeating Iowa in the Riverview Inn Classic in Clarksville over the weekend. Freshman designated hitter Cody Hudson got off to a fast start, leading the team with five hits in 11 at-bats (.545 avg) with five runs scored. Senior righthander David Vicini is slated to start for AP in what will be a staff outing for the pitchers. Vicini struggled in his lone appearance this year, allowing three runs on three hits with two walks in a third of an inning against Iowa on Saturday.

VU holds a 50-19-2 all-time lead in a series that dates back to 1958. The Commodores had won 12 straight meetings going back to the 2002 season, before losing 9-8 in Clarksville last April.
