Commodore Golf takes early lead in Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. — The men’s golf team holds a one-stroke lead over Ole Miss and Memphis following day one of the 54-hole Mobile Bay Intercollegiate.

The Commodores combined to shoot a two-over 290 on Sunday. Sophomore Trey DelGreco paced Vanderbilt with a two-under 70. DelGreco carded five birdies on Sunday and stands in a tie for second three shots back of the lead held by MTSU’s Kent Bulle.

Senior Hudson Johnson also stands in the event’s Top 10 with 36 holes left to play. Johnson shot an even-par 72 with five birdies against a bogey and two doubles. Junior Ryan Haselden and sophomore Charlie Grace also scored for the Commodores with matching two-over 74’s. Senior Chris Rockwell shot a five-over 77 and was not counted. Competing as an individual, Commodore freshman Will Snipes carded a one-over 73 and stands in a tie for 16th.

Hosted by the University of South Alabama at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course, the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate is playing at 7,212 yards and par-72. The Commodores are scheduled to tee off for Monday’s second round at 9:06 a.m. CT with Ole Miss and Memphis, though thunderstorms are forecast through the evening. The final 18 holes are slated for Tuesday.
