NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt lacrosse team was picked to finish second in the American Lacrosse Conference this season behind Northwestern, the ALC announced last week. Sarah Downing, Ally Carey, and Alex Mundy were also named to the ALC Preseason All-Conference Team, voted on by all six of the ALC coaches.
The ‘Dores finished the 2009 season tied for second in the ALC standings with a 2-2 record along with Penn State and Ohio State, behind Northwestern.
Downing, Carey, and Mundy each received All-Conference honors for their play last season. Downing and Mundy were named to the ALC All-Conference First-Team while Carey was named to the ALC All-Conference Second-Team, respectively.
In 2009, Downing set single-season school records for goals scored (55) and points (81), leading an explosive offensive attack for the Commodores. Mundy led the team with 43 ground balls as well as recording 13 draw controls and 23 caused turnovers.
After coming to Vanderbilt ranked as the No. 1 recruit in the country by Inside Lacrosse, Carey netted 31 goals and 22 assists for 53 points during her freshman campaign.
