6’4 freshman guard John Jenkins nabbed his second consecutive SEC Freshman of the Week honor last week for his performances against Middle Tennessee State and Florida, when he averaged 13.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in wins over the Blue Raiders and Gators. Jenkins also claimed the honor last week in two Vanderbilt wins over Manhattan and Southern Miss.
Jenkins, who is averaging 11.0 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game in his initial season with the Commodores, recorded 13 points against both Middle Tennessee and Florida last week. He has now scored in double figures in each of Vanderbilt’s last seven games and 10 times for his career. He was 6-of-13 from three-point range on the week, making three three-pointers in each game. Jenkins has now made at least three three-pointers in six consecutive games.
He has made 59.4 percent (22-of-37) of his three-pointers in the last six games, and is shooting 47.4% from three on the season (37-78).
Last week, Jenkins averaged 17.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in the two Commodore wins in route to the weekly award.
