Haselden leads, VU in third

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Vanderbilt sophomore Ryan Haselden remains atop the leaderboard after day two of the 2009 Seminole Intercollegiate, hosted by Florida State University at the Golden Eagle Country Club.

Haselden shot an even-par 72 on Saturday and stands in a three-way tie with Jim David of Ole Miss and Virginia’s Conrad von Borsig at five-under-par after yesterday’s impressive 67.

Senior Tyler Matthews also ranks in the tournament’s Top 10. Matthews shot Saturday’s low round of four-under 68 to jump nearly 20 places in the standings.

As a team, Vanderbilt remains in third place behind Ole Miss and Virginia. The Rebels hold a one stroke lead over the Cavaliers, while Vanderbilt is only six strokes off the pace. Those three teams are the only ones at par or better for the event out of a field of 12 teams.

Senior Jon Curran and junior Hudson Johnson both shot one-over 73s on Saturday. Curran is tied for 20th in the field of 64 golfers, while Johnson is 26th. Freshman Trey DelGreco carded a five-over 77 in the second round, and is tied for 43rd position.

Sunday’s third and final rounds begin at 8:20 a.m. ET. Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and Virginia will leave from the first tee at 9:30 a.m.
