Commodores travel to Wright State Wednesday

DAYTON, Ohio — The 16th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s basketball team will travel to face the Wright State Raiders on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT inside the Ervin J. Nutter Center.

The Commodores (6-0) are coming off a pair of wins over Austin Peay and North Carolina State in their own 2009 Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament. Senior guard Merideth Marsh was named the Tournament’s Most Valuable Player and earned Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honors.

Marsh and juniors Hannah Tuomi and Jence Rhoads are all averaging more than 12 points per game for the Commodores, who moved five spots in this week’s ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll from 21st to 16th.

Wright State (3-1) has won three straight at home after opening the season with a loss at IPFW. LaShawna Thomas averages 13.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game to lead the Raiders.

For those planning to attend Wednesday’s road game, Wright State is offering free admission with the donation of a canned good or “new” toy at gates 3 or 9 of the Nutter Center. The gifts will benefit the Dayton’s Kinship Caregiver Coalition.

Fans who cannot make the trip up to Dayton have a number of options for following the Commodores on the road, including a free webcast presented by the Horizon League Network. Vanderbilt has three games scheduled in five days for the second consecutive week. The Commodores will return home to face Bowling Green on Friday before playing host to Western Kentucky on Sunday.
