VANDERBILT COMMODORES

Bobby Johnson, Vanderbilt Head Coach

Opening statement:
“Florida is a very good team and to have the chance to win the game, we’d have to do much
better than we did tonight. We gave them two opportunities for scores, one was an interception,
the other was the downed knee on the punt. We can’t mess up in those situations. I thought we
played hard, we just couldn’t seem to get it in the end zone. It’s hard to beat a good team.”

On how Vanderbilt applied pressure against Tim Tebow:
“We weren’t going to sit back tonight. We had four sacks and that’s what we wanted to do. They
had a very diverse offense and did a lot of stuff. We did a good job condensing their strengths
and we executed well.”

On punter Brett Upson’s downed knee:
“It was not a great snap, but you have to be aware of the knee and putting it down. That’s easy to
say after the fact, but when you’re on the field, it’s hard and we can’t put fault on John Stokes
(snapper). He’s always very reliable on snaps.”

Senior Defensive End Steven Stone

On the game:
“Florida is obviously a very good team. I think we came out and fought hard but they’re a good
team. We tried to put a lot of pressure on them but they had a lot of good play passes.”

On his return to playing:
“I feel a lot better. I’m starting to feel like a football player again.”

Senior Quarterback Mackenzi Adams

On his first start:
“It felt good; I felt comfortable.”

On the remainder of the season:
“We’re not playing for a bowl game anymore but we’re better than a two-win team.”

Freshman Tailback Warren Norman

On playing Florida:
“The team played well. I feel like we gave it our all.”

On his 30-yard run:
“It was pretty good but I don’t like the long runs as much as touchdowns.”

On breaking the yard record:
“It’s nice. I care more about winning games.”

FLORIDA GATORS

Urban Meyer, Florida Head Coach

Opening statement:
“First of all I want to complement our opponent, they played extremely hard. I also want to
complement our football team. We’re 9-0, and this is the third time in the University of Florida
history and that’s pretty impressive because there is obviously a great history to the school. The
one thing that stood out to me is that our coverage units are probably playing at the highest level
that I’ve probably had the privilege of being around. Those guys did a good job of containing their
kickoff returner. I thought our defense tremendous and I thought our offense did OK. We are still
lacking the big play production that we need to get in our offense. But once again, the best thing
about going 9-0 is the chance to go 10-0. We go on the road next week against South Carolina
and look to put a big finish on a great season and look forward to getting back to work on
Sunday.”

On the defense playing without Brandon Spikes:
“The defense was tremendous. There’s not much of a drop-off. Ryan Stamper is a great leader, a
great player. Dustin Doe, Coach Strong called him out in the locker room. It’s pretty good when
you have some depth and you take out a great player and put in two older players that played
well. I think Jon Bostic at times played well, I started him on kickoff and on punt teams and then
he played well at the end of the game. We’re getting a little bit of depth. When you pull a senior
out and you are able to have two guys play like that, Doe and Stamper, it’s very impressive.”

On the offense:
“We just didn’t have the big play production. We had four sacks I noticed, and we didn’t have any
home run shots. It’s always a concern. You can find a concern with every game you play. Last
year was kickoff cover. Now we have that squared away and we have to get a little more
production out of the offense. We’re working at it.”

Junior Wide Receiver David Nelson

On his touchdown reception:
“The pass was to Riley Cooper. The ball came so fast and just tipped off his hands. I put my
hands up at the right time and caught it. It had nothing to do with what I did. The ball just fell in
my lap. It was a good win for us and it was fun to get in the end zone again.”

On the red zone offense:
“A few times in the red zone we left with three points. That’s just devastating to the offense. You
have a good drive going down the field, get in the red zone and leave with a field goal. We will
take three points any time we can get them, but at the same time we feel like we should score
touchdowns on each drive.”

Senior Linebacker Ryan Stamper

On Vanderbilt:
“They had a lot of third down conversions and we stuck together and fought real hard tonight. A
lot of people don’t give them as much credit as they deserve, but Vanderbilt has a good team.”

On his interception:
“We talk to the defensive backs about catching them. I think we have seven. I’m not sure how
many we have, but I think we’re going to catch them by the end of the season. He was throwing
left and the tight end tried to run off of the running back. I saw the tight end open up a bit, so I
tried to get under him.”

On next week’s game at South Carolina:
“We have to play hard every game. We’re getting Brandon Spikes back this week, so it will be a
good night for the Gator defense next week.”

Senior Wide Receiver Aaron Hernandez

On his play tonight:
“I come out every game and try to play my hardest. I hope I can catch as many passes as I can
to try to help the team. That’s all I do. I felt that the left lane was open, so I decided to try to
make a play. (Tim) Tebow threw a great pass and I just tried to make the play.”

On the offense:
“Our offense still hasn’t reached our potential. I feel like we can put up a lot of points. We still
struggle at times, but all we have to do is keep fighting and keep showing up in big games.”

On the season so far:
“Not many people in the country have the chance to go 10-0. The season is so fragile, so we
have to come out every game fighting and hope for the victory.”
