CARBONDALE, Ill. — The 18th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s basketball team travels to face Southern Illinois Wednesday night at SIU Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT.

Vanderbilt (1-0) won its season opener on Sunday against Lehgh, 90-54. The Commodores were led by freshman Tiffany Clarke, who scored a game-high 14 points in her collegiate debut. Clarke combined with fellow newcomers Gabby Smith and Elan Brown to contribute 30 points in 62 total minutes.

Junior point guard Jence Rhoads — who ranked third in the NCAA in assist-to-turnover ratio a year ago — dished out a career-high 10 assists as the Commodores shot 56 percent from the field.

Vanderbilt is 8-1 in nine previous meetings against Southern Illinois in a series that is being renewed for the first time since 1998. The Commodores are undefeated in four previous trips to Carbondale.

Southern Illinois dropped its season opener on the road at Saint Louis. The Salukis were led by Katrina Swingler, Eboni Crayton and Teri Oliver with 10 points each.
