NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s cross country team is ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Division I South Region preseason poll. The ranking was announced in a release by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association in New Orleans Monday.
“The No. 6 ranking is just ahead of where we finished last year,” Head Coach Steve Keith said. “We have some lofty goals this year and plenty of SEC teams just ahead of us so the team is very excited to get out and test themselves.”
The Commodores are coming off its second straight Belmont-Vanderbilt Opener team title as they took home first-place honors once again at Percy Warner Park on September 4.
Florida State is ranked No.1 in the South region while Florida, Tennessee, Auburn and Georgia round out the top five in respective order. VU is looking to improve on last year’s seventh place finish at the NCAA South Regional Championships.
The ‘Dores will hit the course running this weekend as they host the Commodore Classic. The men will run an 8K , beginning at 9 a.m., while the women will race a 5K at 10 a.m.
