NASHVILLE, Tenn. –Vanderbilt scored two goals in the first half and cruised to a 4-0 win over Murray State Sunday afternoon at the VU Soccer Complex.

The Commodores improved to 3-0 on the year while the Racers fell to 0-2.

VU head coach Ronnie Woodard was not in attendance at the game as she gave birth to her first child, Thomas Woodard IV, Saturday afternoon. Thomas weighed in at seven pounds and 12.5 ounces and was 21 inches long. Assistant coaches Cristin Czubik and Eric Vaughter handled the coaching duties for the day.

“Ronnie did a great job of preparing us for this day,” said Czubik. “The soccer office has been greatly anticipating her having the baby and we are excited to get the win at the same time and keep things going.”

The Commodores scored their first goal in the first half this season at the 18:24 mark when Megan Kinsella took a feed from Megan Forester and scored from six yards out in the middle of the field.

VU added a second goal at the 40:34 mark when Murray State’s Vern Pribyslavska kicked in an own goal. Freshman Madeline Danna was credited with the goal, her first collegiate score.

The Dores held a 2-0 halftime lead with a 7-1 shot advantage.

Vanderbilt made it 3-0 at the 55:59 mark when freshman Chelsea Stewart headed in a ball from three yards out that hit the crossbar and fell in. It was her first collegiate goal.

VU’s final goal came with less than four minutes in the contest when redshirt freshman Kate Goldin scored from seven yards out into the back of the goal off of assists from Hannah Gonzales and Danna. It was Goldin’s first collegiate goal after receiving a medical redshirt due to injury a year ago.

“It’s great to be out there on the field after being off it nearly a year,” said Goldin. “I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else, because I love playing with this team and for these coaches.”

Goalkeeper Rachel Bachtel and Jessica Amlaw combined on the shutout. Bachtel recorded a save in 76 minutes of work, before Amlaw came to close out the match.

Vanderbilt outshot Murray State 15-4 for the game with seven different players with two shots each. The coaches were able to use every player off the bench for the second straight contest.

The Commodores will close their five-game homestand next weekend with a pair of contests against local foe Belmont next Friday at 7 p.m. and Big 12 stalwart Oklahoma on Sunday at 1 p.m.
