KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Vanderbilt incoming freshman Ryan Lipman posted six wins in a row to reach the finals of the USTA Boys’ 18 National Championships, but on Sunday he came up one win short of a title.
Lipman, the No. 8 seed in the tournament, had his title hopes ended by No. 2 seed Chase Buchanan, who defeated the Nashville native, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4. The loss ended a remarkable run by Lipman, who didn’t drop a set in the tournament until the semifinals.
With 192 of the top junior players in the country, the USTA Boys’ National Championships is considered the most prestigious junior tournament for U.S. citizens.
