A total of 312 amateur golfers will take part in the 2009 U.S. Amateur, which tees off on August 24. Players will compete in two days of stroke play before the field is reduced to the lowest 64 scorers, who will compete in 18-hole match play. The event culminates with a 36-hole championship match scheduled for Sunday, August 30.
Playing at the Willowbrook Country Club in Apollo, Penn., junior Adam Hofmann was two strokes shy of advancing through his section. Hofmann was named an alternate to be called upon in the event that qualifiers are unable to play in the U.S. Amateur.
