Aug. 11, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. – Vanderbilt’s Josie and Jessica Earnest led the way for the United States by each winning the Gold Medal in their divisions at the 47th Annual Lee Evans Tournament for the Americas Tuesday.

Jessica, an entering Commodore freshman, totally dominated the Junior Women’s Division (ages 16-19), taking the Gold by 252 pins over Puerto Rico’s Ashley Spaid. Jessica had a 710-613 series to go with her sterling first day effort. Five of her eight Tuesday games were over 216.

Josie, the two-time NCAA Player of the Year, cruised to victory in the Adult Women’s Division, topping Patricia DeFaria of Venezuela by over 100 pins. Josie began her Tuesday with a scorching 731 series (232-279-220) to pretty much end any suspense about the outcome.
