BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Vanderbilt rising sophomore Jackie Wu has been selected to play in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Summer Championships this weekend at the Indiana University Varsity Tennis Center.
Wu was one of four players to be awarded a top-four seed in the national summer tournament. The 2009 second team All-SEC selection will be the number two seed while she will join Kristy Frilling (Notre Dame), Jennifer Stevens (Virginia) and Kirsten Flower (Ohio State) as the other top seeds. Frilling is the No. 1 seed while Stevens and Flower are the third and fourth, respectively.
The singles and doubles champions from this weekend’s event will earn wild cards into the first national tournaments of the 2009-10 collegiate season, including the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in early October.
The ITA National Summer Championships is presented by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and is the pinnacle of the ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit, which was played at 27 regional sites throughout the country last month. A record 2,976 players have participated in an ITA Summer Circuit event this year.
