NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After concluding its road schedule last weekend, Vanderbilt’s men’s tennis team will return to the friendly confines of the Currey Tennis Center this weekend to face two top-5 opponents when Georgia and Tennessee visit Music City.
No. 52 Vanderbilt (5-13, 1-7 SEC) will host No. 5 Georgia (18-2, 7-1 SEC) at 2 p.m. on Friday and No. 4 Tennessee (18-3, 7-1) at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The Commodores enter this weekend’s matches just one match removed from ending their 10-match losing skid with a 4-3 win at Mississippi State last weekend. After this weekend, the Commodores will have just one regular season match remaining before heading to the SEC Tournament.
Georgia has defeated Vanderbilt each of the last four matches the two have faced each other. Vanderbilt’s last win in the series came in the 2004 NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs have won back-to-back national championships and their only losses have been to No. 1 Virginia and No. 2 Ole Miss this season. Individually, Nate Schnugg is ranked No. 10, Javier Garrapiz is ranked No. 66, Jamie Hunt is ranked No. 72. Schnugg and Hunt also form the No. 9-ranked doubles duo.
Vanderbilt has lost two straight to Tennessee, including a 6-1 loss last season. Tennessee’s losses this year have come to No. 1 Virginia, No. 2 Ole Miss and No. 14 Kentucky. Individually, John-Patrick Smith is ranked No. 9, Boris Conkic is ranked No. 33. In doubles play, the duo of Davey Sandgren and Smith are ranked No. 7.
Vanderbilt’s duo of Alex Zotov and Adam Baker is ranked No. 46.
