NASHVILLE, Tenn. –Vanderbilt, fresh off its first Southeastern Conference series win of the year, will open a four-game road trip against Middle Tennessee Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT at Reese Smith Field.
The Commodores are 19-12 overall and 5-7 in SEC play after taking two of three from Florida at home over the weekend.
Middle Tennessee is 21-7 overall and 11-4 in Sun Belt play after getting swept at Louisiana-Lafayette over the weekend. The Blue Raiders were receiving votes in the national polls entering last week’s action. Pitcher/Designated hitter Bryce Brentz leads the team in hitting as well as on the mound. He is hitting .448 with 13 homers and 32 RBI, while also posting a 3-1 record and 3.77 ERA. As a team, MTSU is hitting .330 with 48 homers and 265 runs scored (9.5 per game). Right-hander Chad Edwards (4-0, 5.23 ERA) will get the start for the Blue Raiders on Tuesday.
Senior right-hander Nick Christiani (3-1, 6.40 ERA) will get the start for the Commodores. VU leads the all-time series with MTSU 81-39 and have won three of the last four meetings.
After the game against Middle Tennessee, Vanderbilt will hit the road for a three-game series against Arkansas. The Razorbacks are 22-6 overall and 10-2 in SEC play and are ranked No. 1 in the country by Collegiate Baseball, marking the first time they have achieved that feat.
