WG Heads To PING/ASU Invite

The 17th ranked Vanderbilt women’s golf team travels to Tempe, Ariz., to take part in the 2009 PING/ASU Invitational at the par-72, 6,230-yard Arizona State University Karsten Golf Course. The Commodores will compete with 16 other teams in the three-day event, which begins on Friday morning.

One of the toughest tournaments of the year, the field includes: No. 1. Arizona State, No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 USC, No. 5 Oklahoma State, No. 9 Purdue, No. 12 Pepperdine, No. 15 Denver, No. 17 Vanderbilt, No. 21 Stanford, No. 24 California, No. 26 Arizona, No. 28 Oregon, No. 29 New Mexico, No. 40 Texas A & M, No. 42 Colorado, No. 55 Tulsa and No. 58 UCF.

The starting lineup for the Commodores this weekend includes senior Jacqui Concolino, junior Brooke Goodwin, sophomore Megan Grehan, and freshmen Marina Alex and Andrea Messer.

Vanderbilt finished in 14th place in the 2008 PING/ASU Invitational, with USC taking home the PING/ASU Invitational title for the second time. USC’s Dewi Schreefel defeated Arizona State’s Anna Nordqvist in a tie-breaker to win medalist honors.
