WT Travels to Auburn, Host Alabama

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The 26th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s tennis team returns to Southeastern Conference play for the first time in 12 days as it squares off against No. 31 Auburn at 4 p.m. Friday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn, Ala. Following the match with the Tigers, the Commodores (5-5, 1-2 SEC) will return home to Nashville to play host to No. 17 Alabama at 12 p.m. Sunday at the outside courts of the Currey Tennis Center.

Vanderbilt leads the all-time series with Auburn 19-13, including 17 straight. The Commodores also hold the advantage in the all-time series with Alabama, leading 18-15. VU head coach Geoff Macdonald is 14-0 against Alabama in duals since taking over the reigns of the program prior to the 1995 season.

VU is coming off a hard fought, 4-3 loss to No. 6 Georgia Tech Wednesday. The ‘Dores jumped out to an early 1-0 lead by clinching the doubles point over the Yellow Jackets. VU’s number one pair of Heather Steinbauer and Jackie Wu picked up their second win over a ranked doubles opponent Wednesday as they topped GT’s 20th-ranked team of Noelle Hickey and Christy Striplin, 8-6.
