NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt will take a break from Southeastern Conference baseball action with a pair of home mid-week games against Austin Peay and Wright State on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Dores will take on Austin Peay at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and will then face Wright State at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Of note, the Austin Peay game was listed on the original schedule as a 4 p.m. contest, but will now be played at 6 p.m.

The Commodores are 14-8 overall and 2-4 in SEC action after dropping two of three at Kentucky over the weekend. VU will look to reignite the bats after hitting .207 in the three game set. Freshman second baseman Riley Reynolds went 4-for-10 in the series to lead the team and is now batting .328 on the year.

Sophomore right-hander Russell Brewer will make his first start of the season against the Governors. He is 0-2 with a 1.35 ERA with 10 strikeouts and three walks in 6.2 innings of work. The North Carolina native will be on a pitch count with several other hurlers expected to see action.

Sophomore right-hander Chase Reid is slated to start against the Raiders on Wednesday. He currently has a 10.1 innings scoreless streak in five relief appearances. He is 2-0 with a 2.87 ERA with 14 strikeouts and five walks in 15.2 innings of work. The Texas native will be on a pitch count with several other hurlers expected to see action.

The Governors are 9-12 overall and 1-2 in Ohio Valley play after dropping two of three to Eastern Kentucky over the weekend in Clarksville. Catcher Trey Lucas leads the team with a .379 batting average with 12 doubles and 12 RBI. Utility man Matt Kole is the top power hitter for AP with six homers and 21 RBI in 19 starts. As a team they are batting .268 with 14 homers and 128 runs scored (6.1 per game). Right-hander Ryne Mantooth (1-3, 7.58 ERA) will get the start against the Commodores on Tuesday. Head coach Gary McClure is in his 22nd season as the leader of the Govs and is also the father of Commodore infielder Alex McClure.

VU holds a 49-18-2 all-time lead in a series that dates back to 1958. The Commodores have won the last 11 meetings dating back to the 2002 season.

The Raiders are also 9-12 overall and 2-1 in Horizon League play after taking two of three against Youngstown State in Horizon League action at home over the weekend. Outfielder Casey McGrew leads the team with a .403 batting average to go with three homers and 17 RBI. As a team WSU is hitting .285 with nine homers and 116 runs scored in 21 games (5.5 per game). Wright State takes on Georgia on Tuesday before visiting Nashville on Wednesday. The team’s probable starter was still to be determined.

The game against the Raiders will be the first ever between the two schools on the baseball diamond.
