Vote for Wirth for Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt senior forward Christina Wirth has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America women’s basketball third team, announced by the College Sports Informations Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Wirth becomes the fourth Commodore to earn national recognition from CoSIDA, and the first since Zuzi Klimesova (2001 and 2002).
A native of Mesa, Ariz., Wirth has boasted a 3.60 GPA as a human & organizational development major at Vanderbilt’s Peabody College. She is also currently enrolled in graduate classes toward a master’s degree in nursing.
Wirth has been named to the Vanderbilt Dean’s List five times, including last semester, and has been lauded on the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll every season. A member of the 2009 SEC Community Service Team, Wirth is one of 10 finalists nationally for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award.
On the court, Wirth is the leading scorer for the 21-7 Commodores. She has led Vanderbilt to 10 conference wins for the fifth time in eight seasons. Wirth was a unanimous preseason All-SEC selection, and was named the league’s Player of the Week in mid-February.
Wirth and the Commodores will close out the 2009 regular season on Sunday, March 1, by travelling to Knoxville, Tenn., to take on in-state rival Tennessee.
