NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The 16th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s tennis team returns to competition this weekend for the first time in two weeks as it plays host to Yale at the Currey Tennis Center Saturday. The match between the Commodores and Bulldogs will begin at noon.
Vanderbilt comes into the match with a 2-1 dual record, compiling wins over No. 40 Wake Forest and Middle Tennessee State. In their most recent win over the Blue Raiders, Catherine Newman, Courtney Ulery, Chelsea Preeg, Heather Steinbauer and Hannah Blatt all won their singles matches in straight sets.
VU dominated the doubles play against the Blue Raiders winning the three matches a combined score of 24-4.
The Commodores have three players ranked in the ITA national singles rankings, led by Newman at No. 28. Freshman Jackie Wu enters this weekend ranked No. 55 in singles while sophomore Keilly Ulery is 106th.
Yale comes to Nashville with a 6-1 record with its most recent win coming against No. 52 Princeton (W, 4-3) on Feb. 15. The 51st-ranked Bulldogs are coached by Danielle Lund McNamara and former Vanderbilt two-time All-American Amanda Fish. Fish is in her first season as an assistant coach at Yale after playing professionally in Europe before her arrival in New Haven, Conn.
As a junior at Vanderbilt, Fish earned first-team All-SEC honors after posting a 20-6 record at No.1 singles.
