NASHVILLE, Tenn. — When the 22nd-ranked Vanderbilt women’s basketball team plays host to Georgia on Sunday, Feb. 15, the Commodores will trade in their customary black and gold for pink uniforms and shoes.

The Lady Bulldogs will also lighten their normal red hues with pink accents as the two schools join more than 1,500 institutions in support of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s “Pink Zone” initiative to raise awareness of breast cancer.

Vanderbilt’s annual “Pink Out” contest is scheduled to tip-off at 12:20 p.m. CT, and will be televised live by ESPN2. Tickets are still available for the game, and fans are encouraged to purchase tickets on Sunday at the Memorial Gymnasium box office, as the proceeds from all walk-up sales will be donated to the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

This season’s Pink Out carries special significance for the women’s basketball community, following the recent loss of North Carolina State Head Coach Kay Yow after a 21-year battle with breast cancer. Fans are encouraged to join players, coaches and officials in wearing pink to show their support for the cause.

At last season’s Pink Out, Vanderbilt beat Kentucky, 66-49. This year, the Commodores (19-6, 8-2 SEC) are looking to avenge a January loss in Athens, Ga., as the Lady Bulldogs (15-9, 5-4) visit the Music City.

Vanderbilt is coming off an impressive 84-68 victory over No. 9/11 Florida at home on Thursday. Junior Merideth Marsh tied a school record by sinking eight three-pointers en route to a career-high 26 points. Other double-figures scorers for Vanderbilt included seniors Christina Wirth and Jennifer Risper and sophomore Hannah Tuomi.

The Commodores will be featured on TV for the seventh time this season, making their first appearance on the ESPN family of networks. Following Sunday’s game, Vanderbilt will play host to Auburn for Senior Day (Feb. 19) before ending the regular season with road trips at Ole Miss (Feb. 22) and Tennessee (March 1).
