No. 1 Bowlers head to Baltimore

Feb. 13, 2009

PERRY HALL, Md. – Top-ranked Vanderbilt will be among a field of 30 teams when the annual Morgan State Invitational begins here Saturday.

The Commodores, 57-13 for the season, were second here a year ago when pins were toppling and scores were strong.

Tara Kane made last year’s all-tournament team and finished third individually with a hefty 216.6 average, less than a pin average behind the leader. Michelle Peloquin was seventh and Josie Earnest ninth, each with averages over 205.

Those three along with Brittni Hamilton, Brittany Garcia and Karen Grygiel will comprise the Commodore travel team.

Competition starts at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Brunswick Perry Hall Lanes with five team games. Sunday action begins at 8:50 a.m. with five, four-game Baker matches. The tournament champion will be determined by total pins from the two days.

Seven of the current top 10 teams in the NCAA will be competing, including No. 2 Fairleigh Dickinson, No. 3 Nebraska and fifth-ranked Delaware State.
