Men’s Netters host two weekend matches

NASHVILLE – Coming off a 4-3 win over 35th-ranked N.C. State last Sunday, Vanderbilt’s 28th-ranked men’s tennis team will continue its home schedule Friday and Saturday when it hosts Memphis and Middle Tennessee State, respectively.

The Commodores (2-2) will begin their weekend of competition at 2 p.m. on Friday when Memphis pays a visit to the Currey Tennis Center. The Tigers are 4-1 this season and are off to their best start since the 1994-95 season. Last season, Vanderbilt downed Memphis, 6-1, in Nashville.

On Saturday, the Commodores will host Middle Tennessee State at 12 p.m. The Blue Raiders are 2-1 this season with its only loss coming against Northwestern (4-3). Last season, the Commodores defeated MTSU, 5-2.

This weekend’s matches will be the first of the season against unranked opponents. The Commodores have already faced No. 18 Michigan, No. 29 Auburn, No. 30 Boise State and No. 35 N.C. State.

Individually, Memphis’ Jorge Vazquez is the only ranked singles player Vanderbilt will face this weekend. Vazquez, a freshman, is currently ranked 102nd in the nation.

Both matches will be held at the Currey Tennis Center and are free to attend.
